FOR SALE IS A SHARP EARLY 60s NIVADA CROTON WANDERER HOUSING A VULCAIN CRICKET ALARM MOVEMENT.
- CASE: CLASSIC ALL-STEEL CASE MEASURING A HEALTHY 35.2mm NOT INCLUDING ORIGINAL SIGNED CROWN BY 42mm LUG TO LUG. THIS CASE IS IN CLEAN AND EXCELLENT SHAPE WITH SHARP LUGS AND NO SIGNS OF EVER HAVING BEEN POLISHED. SHE WEARS REALLY QUITE NICE DUE TO THE LONGER LUG TO LUG AND THINNER BEZEL/WIDE DIAL. CHECK OUT THAT MINTY AND VERY WELL PRESERVED ROTATING 12 HOUR TIMER/GMT BEZEL WHICH ROTATES BIDIRECTIONALLY AND HAS SUCH A COOL AND CLASSY FONT.
- DIAL: THIS SUNBURST PEARLY SILVER CLASSIC RADIUM DIAL IS A SERIOUS LOOKER. VERY SIMPLE WITH ITS 2 LINES OF TEXT AND APPLIED SLIVER STEEL MARKERS. I LOVE THAT BRILLIANT RED ARROW ALARM HAND AND THE STRIKING BLACK SWEEPER. THAT SHARP DAUPHINE HANDSET REALLY TIES THE WHOLE LOOK TOGETHER WITH SOME ELEGANCE.
- MOVEMENT: THIS GENTLEMAN RUNS ON THE FAMOUS AND QUITE COLLECTIBLE 17 JEWEL VULCAIN 120 CRICKET ALARM MOVEMENT. WATCH IS KEEPING GOOD TIME AND THE ALARM FUNCTIONS QUITE WELL. SERVICE HISTORY IS UNKNOWN. THIS IS A UNIQUE COMPLICATION. THE CROWN WINDS CLOCKWISE TO WIND THE BARREL OF THE ALARM AND COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO WIND THE POWER RESERVE FOR THE WATCH ITSELF.
WATCH COMES MOUNTED ON A RUGGED BLACK LEATHER STRAP FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION WHICH I FELT PAIRED WELL WITH THIS PIECE. I REALLY HAVE A SOFT WARM SPOT IN MY SOUL FOR THIS WATCH AS IT COMBINES 2 HISTORIC BRANDS INTO ONE COOL PACKAGE. USING THE CRICKET CALIBER, THIS ALARM PULLS FROM THE HERITAGE OF THE FAMOUS VULCAIN WATCHES WHICH MANY PAST AMERICAN PRESIDENTS PROUDLY WORE. THE NIVADA CROTON BRAND WAS ONE OF THE COOLEST SWISS COMPANIES OFFERING SOME OF THE MOST LEGENDARY DIVERS AND CHRONOS OF THE 60s AND 70s SUCH AS THE CHRONOMASTER AVIATOR SEA DIVER AND THE ANTARCTIC. THE WANDERER IS A CLASSIC IN ITS OWN RIGHT AND THIS HAPPENS TO BE A BEAUTIFUL AND VERY WELL PRESERVED EXAMPLE. THIS IS FOR THE TRUE ADVENTURER AND TRAILBLAZER LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT PACKS A BUZZ.
