COMING AT YOU IS A SHARP AND QUITE GORGEOUS JANUARY 1988 SEIKO 7A28-7120 ISSUED TO THE ROYAL AIR FORCE.
- CASE: ALL STEEL CASE MEASURING IN AT 37mm ACROSS NOT INCLUDING CROWN/PUSHERS. THIS ONE HAS A VERY TOOL LIKE FEEL WITH ITS MATTE BEAD BLASTED FINISH. CHECKOUT THE STAMPING ON THE BACK INDICATING ITS MILITARY PROVENANCE WITH THE RAF. THIS ONE WEARS PERFECT IN MY OPINION.
- DIAL: JUST WOW!!! SO SIMPLE YET SO MUCH DETAIL TO TAKE IN. THIS FACE HAS A CLASSIC MILITARY DESIGN WITH THE MATTE BLACK DIAL AND THE TRI-COMPAX LAYOUT. THESE WERE UNIQUE BECAUSE THEY USED PROMETHIUM LUME VERSUS TRITIUM(HENCE THE “P”) AT 12. APPARENTLY THE RAF WENT WITH PROMETHIUM BECAUSE IT WASN’T RADIOACTIVE AND WOULDN’T INTERFERE WITH MILITARY EQUIPMENT.
- MOVEMENT: THIS DUDE IS POWERED BY THE IN-HOUSE SEIKO 7A28 QUARTZ CHRONOGRAPH CALIBER, WHICH WAS THE FIRST ANALOG QUARTZ CHRONOGRAPH MOVEMENT EVER MADE....A TECHNOLOGICAL JUGGERNAUT BACK IN THE EARLY 80s. RUNNING ON 15 JEWELS AND HOUSING NO PLASTIC PARTS, THIS WAS A HIGHLY ROBUST AND WELL CRAFTED CALIBER WHICH HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. THIS GUY IS A STRONG RUNNER AND ALL FUNCTIONS WORK AS THEY SHOULD(ALTHOUGH I WILL NOTE THAT OCCASIONALLY THE MINUTE TOTALIZER RESETS TO AROUND 25 MINUTES).THIS IS BACK WHEN QUARTZ MOVEMENTS WERE AVANT GARDE AND THERE WAS A HIGH LEVEL OF SOPHISTICATION IN THEIR ENGINEERING AND DESIGN. THIS ONE WAS JUST REGULATED AND OILED BY MY WATCHMAKER.
- THIS TOUGH DUDE COMES MOUNTED ON A HIGH GRADE NATO STRAP WHICH PLAYS WELL WITH THAT MIL-VIBE. EVERY SERIOUS SEIKO COLLECTOR AND QUARTZ COLLECTOR NEEDS A 7A28 OR 7A38 CHRONO IN THEIR COLLECTION. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE FOR MILITARY HISTORY BUFFS AND WATCH NERDS ALIKE.
